Do I need any prior experience to join a workshop?
No experience needed
Each workshop in Istanbul we run is built for guests who have never tried this kind of craft. Most guests walk in and say they cannot draw or have never made anything by hand. None of that matters. The session is guided. Your guide shows you every step. You do not need a course, a hobby, or any practice. The session is shaped around first-time guests. Most of the people in your group will be in the same boat.
How a session is paced for first-timers
A session opens with a short demo. The guide shows the materials, the tools, and the finished piece. Then you start. Each step is broken down small enough to copy. If you fall behind, the guide slows down with you. If you finish a step early, the guide gives you the next one. A session runs two to three hours. That is enough time to relax, ask questions, and not feel rushed.
What if I am not the artistic type
This worry is the most common one. It is also the easiest to put aside. Our art workshops Istanbul guests join are not graded. There is no skill test. The guide's job is to help you make a piece you are happy with. You do not need to have ever held a brush, a chisel, or a needle. Most guests are surprised by what they make on a first try at our art workshops.
Tools, materials, and safety
Everything you need is set up at your station. All tools, materials, and safety gear are provided. The guide goes over the safety steps for crafts that use heat, sharp tools, glass, or strong scents. Hand-washing is set up between steps. Aprons are provided for crafts that can stain clothes. You bring nothing. The studio is fully ready for the group.
Languages and group size
The standard languages are English and Turkish. Other languages can be added with notice. A translator can be brought in. For larger groups, parallel sessions can run at the same time. They can run in different languages or with different stations. Group size depends on the workshop, the run, and the venue.
A piece you are proud of
You leave with the piece you made and a paper. Many first-time guests book a second workshop in the same trip after they see what they made. Photos are welcome the whole session. The guide will usually offer a group photo at the end.
