What should I wear to a workshop?
General guidance
Wear what is comfortable and casual. Workshops are hands-on, so a small mark on your sleeve or apron is possible. Aprons are provided at the start of the session for crafts that can stain. The studio is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter, so layers help year-round. There is no dress code.
Crafts where stains can happen
Ebru tote bag, leather crafting, and tile painting use paints, dyes, or finishing materials that can leave a mark. The apron we hand out at the start covers most of your front, but a small splash on a sleeve is possible. Wear sleeves you would not mind dotting. White or pale colors are not the best pick for these crafts.
Crafts with sharp tools or glass
Stained glass, mosaic lamp, and tile painting use tools or materials that can cut. Closed shoes are safer than sandals or open-toed shoes. The cuts in glass for stained glass and the lamp parts for mosaic are not sharp during the build, but small chips on the floor can be missed. Closed shoes are a small comfort for the session.
Mosques and modest wear
If your workshop day includes a mosque visit before or after the session, modest dress helps for the mosque. The studio itself has no dress code. A scarf in your bag is useful if you plan to drop into a mosque on the same day. Üsküdar has several historic mosques near the studio, so this comes up often.
Hot summer months
The studio is cool inside even on hot days. The walk between the meeting point and the studio is short and the ferry is shaded. Light layers are fine. A small bottle of water is also fine to bring; we serve drinks during the session, but a personal bottle is welcome.
Cold winter months
A coat and a scarf are useful in winter. The walk to the studio is short. The studio is heated. A coat hook is at each work station for your outer layer.
What you do not need to bring
You do not need to bring tools, materials, or art supplies. The studio is fully set up for the group. A phone for photos is fine. Cash or card to pay at the studio is needed. A small bag for the take-home piece is not needed; we provide a carry box for fragile pieces.
What to wear workshop guidance for first-time guests
For "what to wear workshop" guidance: any casual outfit you would wear to a long café visit fits. The studio is calm and the dress is informal across our sessions. There is no jewelry restriction, but loose sleeves can dip into paint, so a cuff or push-up sleeves help during messy crafts. Light fabric beats heavy fabric in summer.
Workshop dress code istanbul guests often ask about
There is no formal workshop dress code Istanbul guests need to follow at our studio. Local guests sometimes ask if the room is dressy or casual; the answer is casual. Visitors from abroad often dress for sightseeing and that is fine. Bring something with sleeves you can roll up for the messier crafts and you are set for the session.
